How important is your network uptime to you? What will it cost you if you were to lose power to one site in your network? Two sites? Three? Outages and downtime are bad for business - so what are you doing to protect your uptime?

Monitoring your power supplies is a serious job. Especially monitoring your backup batteries. What would happen if a problem with your batteries rendered them useless in a time of crisis? You simply can't afford to leave your backup power supplies unwatched and unmonitored. It's impossible to know when your primary power source might be down - so don't gamble with your critical backup power supplies.

It's unfortunate that so much can go wrong with your batteries. For one, they could fully discharge without you even knowing. This puts you in a tough situation - either you lose power to a site and your network goes down or you're left unprepared for a failure in your primary power supplies. You don't want to be in either of these situations - so the bottom line is you need to be monitoring battery voltage.

How to recognize small problems before they turn into big ones
One of the leading ways to pinpoint troubled cells and weak areas in your battery strings is to utilize battery trending. By analyzing historical data and viewing graphs from your battery monitoring system, you can easily recognize patterns and find problems quickly.

On top of observing patterns with your batteries, you'll also now have historical data about your battery voltage. If you ever need to reference past data about your batteries, you'll now have historical graphs and data at your disposal.

Battery Trending Graph
Analog trending graphs help you pinpoint issues with your batteries and provide historical data to reference.

You want this historical data stored both locally on the device and with your network management system (NMS). In case not all of your people have access to your NMS, they will still have local access to the history data. This ensures that your team can still have access to critical data they need, without sacrificing control over user-level permissions and privileges.

Making sure your back is there to back you up
Fully monitoring your battery cells is the only way to ensure that your backup battery cells are there when you need them. If left unmonitored, you'll be prone to a fully discharged battery or a damaged string giving you an unexpected surprise.

A battery monitoring system is just the tool to protect your backup batteries. With a small RTU like the BVM 48 G2, you can set threshold alarms for each individual battery cell in a string. If the voltage of any cell goes out of its ideal range, you can be notified instantly.

Imagine how much more reliable your network could be. With a battery voltage monitor in place, you'll never have to worry about the status of your backup power supplies - and you'll never be left with an unpleasant surprise.
