"How to Be a Great Candidate: Prepare for the Interview!"

great candidate
Are you a great job candidate?

Applicants may often find themselves wondering "What is DPS looking for in a candidate?" It's simple...We're interested in seeing how your skills and personality will fit into and help our organization. If you're a good fit, we'll be interested in speaking with you.

We use various methods to assess a candidate's fit into our organization. However, our number one hiring tool continues to be the interview. One of the best ways to prepare for an interview is to determine whether your interests, experience, abilities and long term goals match the job and fit with the company.

A good starting place for this is to gain a better understanding of yourself and your personal strengths. Applicants can try the Keirsey Temperament Sorter (free online at keirsey.com) or another personality survey to help them understand their personal style.

To help prepare for your interview, review your assessment results and highlight areas that demonstrate skills you enjoy using. Write down verbs that show you in action and nouns that show qualities that you have. Next, think of a time when you solved a problem. Employers like to hire people who show initiative.

It is also very important to review the job posting to ensure that you meet the minimum requirements and to identify specific technical skills (typing speed, job-specific skills needed to do the job). If you are unclear about any of the information specified in the job posting it is very important that you ask questions during your interview. "It shows interest and initiative when an applicant asks questions about the job they are applying for," said Rosa Lozano, Human Resources at DPS Telecom.

One of the best ways to make yourself stand out as an applicant is by preparing for your interview. Following the steps above will allow you to become more familiar with your personal skills and traits, so that you can better present yourself during your interview.
