NEBS certification has long been a requirement for equipment used in the Central Office in the North American Public Switched Network. The rigorous Network Equipment Building System (NEBS) requirements have become a universal measure of network product excellence.
Reliability of the telephone system is considered a national security issue, is demanded by consumers, and makes good business sense. Therefore, NEBS testing is taken very seriously by both the RBOCs and other service providers.
Deploying NEBS-certified network equipment is a key advantage for access providers including ILECs, CLECs, CAPs, ISPs, ASPs, and, of course, RBOCs. Products that are NEBS certified are also expected to be top performers in enterprise network environments as well.
Network devices may undergo three levels of tests to ensure a uniform level of equipment quality and performance. Here are the levels of tests you can require upon request:
These terms are often casually used by equipment vendors as though they were synonymous. This is not the case. Most NEBS testing laboratories publish their testing procedures. Products that claim to be "compliant" are merely reproducing the rigorous testing procedures in-house (and very rarely perform them all).
NEBS compliant gear does make for a better product than one that hasn't been tested in-house. However, it is still a long way from sending equipment to a nationally recognized testing facility. Testing costs tens of thousands of dollars to make certain that a piece of equipment meets the demanding NEBS standards.
In the past, DPS Telecom's network site monitoring units have been known to comply with NEBS Level 3 certification. Because of this, they've been known to maximize network uptime as well.
Currently, DPS products are not NEBS certified. What's the reason for this?
Having a unit certified comes at a cost. DPS would have to ship their units to their lab and incur a shipping cost. Then, DPS would also have to pay for their services to perform the various tests.
When the unit is officially NEBS certified, DPS would then have to adjust its price. As a result, you would have to pay more.
Our products will only be NEBS certified per your request. Please note that there will be an additional cost associated with the certified unit. To save you time and money, DPS can bypass certification. We will self certify NEBS compliance for all of DPS products at no additional cost to you.
How can DPS self-certify NEBS compliance? It's simple, DPS has the means and capabilities to comply with NEBS certification. This includes using and/or conducting the anechoic chamber, torture test, drop test, and vibration simulation test. These tests can determine EMI levels, equipment reliability and quality, and long-term stress.
DPS performs in-house testing for all of their manufactured units, your units will meet or exceed your expectations upon arrival.
If having NEBS certification is a deal-breaker, you should also know that DPS equipment is a proven, rugged design. Internally, every unit is manufactured with rugged parts for reliability. Externally, they're powder-coated to withstand rusting.
Remember, although DPS products aren't NEBS certified unless requested, know that DPS can conduct their own testing. We build products up to par with, or even exceeding, original equipment manufacturer standards without having to label it as one.
The most successful telecommunication providers choose NEBS compliant equipment. Call us today to learn more about how we at DPS ensure product reliability by meeting these standards.
