DPS President's Letter: April 2017

Marshall DenHartog, DPS Telecom President
Marshall DenHartog
President

For many of you, Q2 means using your 2017 budget and implementing new gear to improve your network. At DPS, we want to help you by making those transitions easier. This quarter, we are working on new T/Mon Wizards for easier T/Mon set up. Also, we are revising the way we test products, both new and old. And as usual, we will be hosting trainings and attending trade shows around the country, giving you the opportunity to meet our experts face-to-face.

T/Mon Wizards - coming soon to a T/Mon near you

We're always looking to improve the usability of our equipment. That's why we're pleased to announce our new T/Mon wizards! Similar to wizards for other software products, the T/Mon wizards will guide you through setting up your T/Mon. The new wizards will be easy to use and focus on the most common tasks needed to get your T/Mon up and running in no time. These wizards will be preloaded on new T/Mons and included in your next software update.

Some of the new wizards include:

  • Setting up a DPS device
  • Adding Users
  • Adding Notifications
  • Setting up T/Mon GFX Maps

Along with these new wizards, improvements to helpful hints and other usability improvements are in the works. These improvements will reduce the time it takes to set up your T/Mon.

Out-of-box Audits

Recently, we've revised our process for auditing our products. We realize how important functionality and reliability are, and are taking every step possible to make sure our products continue to meet your expectations. That is why we've redesigned our product auditing process to be more rigorous and thorough.

Part of our product audit is making sure that our devices are user-friendly, easy to install, reliable, and consistent. Most importantly, our biggest source of information comes from you, our clients. If you have any product ideas or improvements, feel free to give us a call at 1-559-454-1600.

Remote Factory Training In Las Vegas

Our Remote Training Class has finally come full circle. We are headed back to Vegas! In case you missed last year's Remote Training Class in Las Vegas, you now have another chance to attend. DPS will be conducting its Remote Class session at Excalibur Hotel and Casino right on the Strip on May 15-19, 2017.

While similar in structure to the regular classes hosted at DPS headquarters in Fresno, CA, the remote classes offer cheaper airfare, reduced travel time, less-expensive accommodations (ex. Excalibur is well below $100 per night), and entertainment.

Can't make it to our Vegas class? View other class options, both regular and remote, on our Factory Training Calendar.

Trade Shows

Along with exhibiting at trade shows, we have recently started also speaking at conferences across the country. This week at Secure Rail 2017, Andrew will be speaking about How to Remotely Monitor Your Trackside Cabinets and Telecom Sites:

(summary) "You're responsible for mission-critical trackside and telecom facilities. Learn how to remotely monitor and control your equipment. Avoid wasteful (and sometimes even dangerous) site visits. Protect your revenue by maximizing uptime. Boost profitability by minimizing waste. By interviewing his clients, Andrew has assembled a collection of best practices that are used by industry-leading railroads worldwide. You may not need every one of his tips (maybe you don't have to deal with temperatures below -40 degrees), but you can directly benefit from these proven remote management techniques.

If you will be attending Secure Rail in Orlando, FL this week, don't miss the opportunity to hear a DPS expert talk about monitoring. After the presentation, Andrew and Ashley will be at the product showcase. Come by to talk to them about your remote monitoring needs, see a live demo, or grab a DPS screwdriver (a giveaway you'll actually use).

Other upcoming shows this quarter:

  • Secure Rail 2017 ~ Orlando, FL ~ April 5-6, 2017
  • APCO Western Regional Conference ~ Ontario, California ~ April 10-13, 2017:
Andrew and Mariam will be at Booth 114. Learn about what DPS can do for your Public Safety network.
  • UTC 2017 ~ Charlotte, NC ~ May 10-11, 2017:
Come see Andrew and Mark at Booth 304 for live demos of several different DPS RTUs and the T/Mon Master Station.
Best Regards,
