DPS Telecom Releases New 1000BaseT Fiber RTU

FRESNO, Calif., Jan. 8, 2009 - DPS Telecom, a leading developer of network alarm monitoring solutions, announced today the release of their new Gigabit Fiber 1000BaseT interface RTU, the NetGuardian 216F.

The NetGuardian 216 family of RTUs is known for reliability and utility at smaller remote sites. The newest feature, the 1000BaseT (Gigabit) fiber SFP interface, supports fiber transport for alarm data. This NetGuardian has Ethernet, serial, and fiber connectors. "The NetGuardian 216F is a great example of DPS's ability to respond to our clients' needs with perfect-fit custom solutions," said DPS Telecom President Eric Storm. "Using our extensive hardware and software libraries combined with our field-proven design process, we created a product that further extends the NetGuardian family."

The new Gigabit fiber interface NetGuardian 216F is a great solution for remote fiber site monitoring.

But the addition of fiber doesn't mean the NetGuardian 216F gives up any core monitoring functions. It supports 16 discrete alarms and 8 analog inputs. The new NetGuardian 216F also interacts with external devices. Using 2 control relays for controlling equipment remotely and a 7-foot sensor probe, it's capable of monitoring the temperature of another important device.

The 216F also includes a 7-port Ethernet switch that can extend LAN to 7 external devices, eliminating the need to purchase a separate switch.

With a hardened design, the NetGuardian 216F protects your network visibility from being compromised due to weather or power outages. It's robust enough to operate in outdoor enclosures that face extreme conditions and wide temperature ranges from -22 F to 158 F, (-30 C to 70 C) - far exceeding many RTUs that don't even have a fiber interface.

"The NetGuardian 216F can handle a huge temperature range, keeping monitoring online when you need it most," said DPS Senior Engineer Mark Carberry. "This DC-powered RTU is strong and reliable." The NetGuardian 216F runs on your -48v battery plant. So it will continue reporting alarms when commercial power fails. With a compact 1RU form factor, this RTU is ideal for smaller remote fiber sites - it packs lots of capabilities in a small package.

The NetGuardian 216F comes bundled with additional time-saving tools. Alarm reporting is done via SNMP (v1 or v2c) to multiple masters, for quick alarm responses and compatibility with all major SNMP managers. And with built-in web interface, this RTU can be monitored and configured directly from any PC on your network. You can also use the included Windows-based utility for configuration and remote firmware upgrades. "We make sure that our products are easy to set up and start using right away," said Storm.

The NetGuardian 216F is the ideal solution for collecting alarms from your outdoor enclosures and reporting them over 1000BaseT fiber.
